BuddhaFest Exhibition and Events - 14-20 December 2009
The exhibition displays artwork reflecting the spiritual and cultural heritage of eastern Buddhism. We have selected the finest examples of these treasures for this exhibition. Tibetan culture is unique in representing human values, with the spiritual and cultural treasures of humanity being among the most important ones. The objects in this exhibition, which have come from all over the globe, will bring the viewer closer to a closed world whose very survival is danger. The objects exhibited include Tibetan meditational paintings (Tib: thangka) and statues which display a high level of artistic workmanship and contain a complex system of symbolism. The viewer will find easily understandable descriptions and explanations next to each piece of art. Films, pictures, multimedia presentations, and lectures will provide viewers with information to understand the exhibition.
The works of art might be considered by some to be mere curiosities. For this reason, multimedia displays have been put up and events have been organised to provide visitors with information about the objects’ cultural, religious, and artistic significance. In this manner, the visitor will be able to understand these objects in their context and also learn something about the Buddhist view and the treasures of mind. Renowned Hungarian and foreign lecturers will give presentations during the BuddhaFest programmes. A unique musical event with spectacular visual displays will close the BuddhaFest.
The exhibition and the events held in the Gödör Club are free. Our goal is to provide information to the public and to display these objects which show timeless beauty. Similar international exhibitions have been held in Hungary and in other European countries. In the fall of 2008, an exhibition was held at the European Parliament in Brussels. We can be proud of the wide variety of artwork and programmes at the BuddhaFest in Budapest.
